Important vocabulary for ethical search and use:

So, where might we do our searches, in order to use cultural and personal materials responsibly?

• Search engines and services that filter for specific licenses
  • Google's Advanced Image Search -- use the 'Usage Rights' filter
  • Flickr Storm -- click on next to the search bar and choose the appropriate license
  • Stock.xchng advanced image search -- be sure to set the "Restricted OK" field to "No" so the search won't retrieve pictures with more restrictive licenses.
• Specific websites that ask participants to license their works with a CC or CC-like license, or that operate with a Terms of Use that mandates free distribution of work uploaded to the site
